A2B Tracking Solutions Hosts State Leaders at VIP Day

Portsmouth, RI (PRWEB) January 27, 2010 -- A2B Tracking Solutions Inc, the leading enterprise software and services provider in support of the US Department of Defense IUID (item unique identification) program today played host to approximately 30 VIPs from around the state, including Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) and Major General Robert Bray of the Rhode Island National Guard.

In opening remarks, A2B President Peter Collins noted the leadership role that A2B holds in the military's initiative (MIL STD 130) to uniquely bar code and register all of its assets worldwide, with the purpose of bringing efficiencies to the military that are prevalent in retail and elsewhere. "Today marks the official kick-off of our newly created manufacturing facility where military bar codes called IUIDs (item unique identification) are being manufactured, registered and shipped to all parts of the world," said Collins. "During 2010 we are on schedule to manufacture1.4 million labels and tags for the Air Force alone."

In the past year A2B has doubled the size of its Portsmouth headquarters as well as its workforce. The appropriation announced by Reed and Kennedy will be used for software development to keep the military on track and should help A2B with its plan to add up to twenty additional employees, both in enterprise software development, engineering, field services and manufacturing, in 2010.

"I am pleased to have worked with Congressman Kennedy to secure this federal investment in jobs at A2B. This appropriation will help A2B hire more workers, expand their presence in Rhode Island, and continue providing the Pentagon with cost-effective data management solutions. I salute the employees of A2B for their efforts to help our military effectively track supplies and equipment, while improving communication and saving taxpayers money," said Senator Jack Reed, a member of both the Appropriations and Armed Services Committees.

"I am always pleased to work with my colleague Senator Reed to secure funds for Rhode Island's defense industry. It is a particular pleasure to announce an appropriation for a small business that is working with the military on a technology that will save lives on the battlefield and reduce unnecessary costs for our military. This appropriation will help A2B work with the Department of Defense to provide digital tracking technologies, create more jobs here in Rhode Island, and stimulate the local economy. I commend the leadership and employees of A2B for their dedication to working on these technologies on behalf of our troops," said Kennedy, a member of the House Appropriations Committee.

"A2B has enjoyed a strong relationship with its Rhode Island Congressional delegation." Collins added. "It is the company's intention to grow within Rhode Island, using Rhode Island talent and vendors, to become the worldwide center for the fulfillment of the DoD's IUID mandate. There are approximately 1 billion DoD assets around the world which must be correctly marked and registered within the next five years."
